The vet has been to give him a quarterly check and everything seems to be fine - He has put on some weight, I don't think we needed a vet to tell us that though! - She checked over his sarcoids again and is happy with their progress. The ones on his thigh and face have improved although the ones on his throat and "manhood" are still cause for concern. Apparently the one on his throat may be suitable for banding. The vet will be calling again in the New Year to not only check the sarcoids again but also to check his teeth again. The final part of the big lad's treatment was worming him. What a day that was! The sight of two young ladies persuading him to swallow the worming paste when they were having difficulty even reaching his mouth was a sight to behold !! Eventually though the deed was done and time for some apple as a treat. Sam and Lyndsey continued to lunge Deno and ride him in the field and around the orchard during the early part of autumn as weather permitted and it was good to see that he really enjoyed this quality time - (there are lots of photos of Deno in his album dated 09-09-27) Following a few successful rides in the orchard the girls got very brave and decided it was time to introduce Deno to some of the local bridal paths. A lot of preparations were made for Deno's first venture out from the safety of the orchard including getting permission from our neighbours, (a care home), to lead the terrible two through their garden so that they would come out on to the main road directly opposite the gate to the field which needed to be crossed to reach the lane. In the expected way Deno showed his gratitude by leaving the neighbours a present of a large quantity of rose manure !! Once in the field the girls rode the pair around for a few minutes to prepare them for the adventure ahead then it was out through the gate and onto the lane. This outing was a great success and similar rides continued during October and the early part of November to the njoyment of both girls and horses. In the meantime we had been hard at work clearing brambles and hawthorn from the orchard in the hope that next year there will be more grazing for both Deno and Cuddles as well as hopefully providing me with the opportunity to fulfil a secret ambition of mine to set up a quad bike course !! At the beginning of November the Indian summer we had enjoyed during September and October came to a conclusive end when the heavens opened and stayed that way for day after day - the river quickly rose and the stable area became a mud bath. It became obvious very quickly that plans to keep Cuddles and Deno in the orchard over the winter on a permanent basis were not practical. Fortunately the lady who had been renting my late father-in-laws house and managed to get a place of her own with plenty of grazing for Ruby and Ellie so these moved with her meaning her daughter could continue with her riding lessons. This meant that we could use the field for Deno and Cuddles which in turn would rest the Orchard for a short period On the 19th November I received the news that my father had died in his sleep which meant that I had to go up to Blackpool and which in turn precipitated the pairs move across to the field. Fortunately Lara, another eBay group member was by now renting my late father-in-laws house and very kindly agreed to look after them whilst both myself and Coralie were away. Despite her nervousness with horses she has done a marvellous job, so much so they are still over there! - She has learned the secret of the karrit sandwiches and makes sure they are regularly provided every morning - we seem to have gained another active Deno defender. I think this is probably the right place to once again give a heartfelt thank you to our fellow Deno Defender who has been supplying the coriolus supplement which is added to Deno's karrit sandwiches every morning - this costs in excess of a £100 a month and I am sure we are all really appreciative of her extremely kind and continuing support for the great lummox. Deno has been all kitted out for the winter with a new medium weight coat and a very smart heavy weight coat - at least it was smart until he decided to roll in it !! Anyhow that brings us up to date with the antics of the terrible twosome and I promise that I will do my best to keep you all up to date with his progress and won't leave it so long before the next update
