Week 8.

A Week on Our Own..

Well after the exciting events at the weekend the week turns out to be very quiet - nothing to do with Deno or any of the other horses, more to do with Miss C being away for most of the week in Normandy - she said it was hard work looking after a load of school kids, I have my suspicions.

Anyhow with Miss C away horsey duties fell on the not so broad shoulders of Mrs C and myself.

Not only did we have to cope with the karrit and coriolus sandwiches, mucking out and grooming on our own I also had to cope with the farrier's visit as detailed in an earlier post all on my own

Most of the rest of the week passed without incident and the weather was glorious -

It wasn't until the weekend arrived with Miss C still away that we realised just how amateurish we were at this horsey business!

Being of unsound mind we had bought one or two new bits and pieces for the horses during the week - included were two new haynets as our originals were still being enjoyed by Ellie and Ruby across the road. As well as the haynets we had bought some horsehage as a special treat for Cuddles and Deno - this is a dust free high fibre moist hay.

Excited to see Deno's reaction to this special treet we hung the nets in a tree and dragged the Horsehage to the tree. Whilst struggling to open the vacuum sealed sack we realised we had made a serious mistake! For whatever reason, probably senility, we had forgotten to close the gate behind us to prevent the horses joining us whilst we prepared their special treat.

Needless to say Deno decided we were taking too long opening the sack and decided to show us how it should be done:-

Eventually, with no particular thanks to Deno, the nets were filled and the serious matter of grooming could commence

Personally I don't think we did a bad job seing as the expert was still galavanting around western France

Mind you we drew the line at trying to ride them!

Just got the statement from the vet so we still have a few weeks lee way to pay that.

As mentioned previously one of our friends wanted to pay half but I have persuaded them that I would like to keep their kind offer in the "bank" so to speak in case an emergency arises in the future and we haven't got the funds to cover it. - they did insist on paying the farrier's bill though.

If there is enough in the kitty though I wouldn't mind buying a new grooming bag and brush set for Deno - at the moment we are useing pass me down brushes from the other horses and a plastic bag - looks a little sad next to Cuddles' Bentley bag !!

A good bag as far as I remember is around a tenner and a decent brush set is about double that - don't quote me on that but I think that's about what I paid for Cuddles' - I didn't buy them, just got told by Miss C how much I owed her!!

At the weekend we had a few friends over and the horses were evicted from one of their paddocks so we could have a camp fire in the evening

Mind you I'm not convinced that Deno was all that impressed

Still what better way to bring a mad week to a close than with a full moon
