This is a brief potted history of Deno and there is a lot more information in the various other sections of the website.
Deno is a very lucky horse who was rescued on Valentine's Day 2005, just before his 6th birthday in March. His story began when he was found shivering
in a muddy field with no shelter or rugs to protect him from the winter weather. His jaw had been broken,( unable to eat properly,
he was literally starving to death ), he had a very badly damaged hoof, multiple small injuries, sores and ulcerating sarcoids
( a kind of skin cancer ), major liver damage and he was being bullied by the other horses who sensed his weakness and that
he was dying.
When Deno was rescued, he was so sick that he barely had the strength to stagger into the horse box to travel to his new
home. His long & expensive recovery began and gradually he improved in health & confidence, and in spite of what he had
been through, he has an indomitable spirit and an incredible capacity to love and trust people.
The original Deno supporters were based online via Ebay UK Community, Family, Home & Garden and many friendships,
both online and in real life have been made. Now we are trying to share Deno even further and find new friends to be part of
his life and continuing story. This horse has a knack for bringing people together and being a joy and inspiration to all.
Deno was rescued in Cornwall but now lives in Surrey, near Gatwick after the original rescuers health deteriorated and she had to
make the hard decision on what was best for Deno. Deno took the move well, helped by living with a gentle pony called Cuddles who
put up with this great large lump of horse sharing with her, as the Fryer family welcomed Deno to their home.
Sadly just before Christmas Cuddles was found to have cancer and was put to sleep to prevent suffering. Both the human family
and Deno were naturally devastated and after a frantic search, a new companion was found to help Deno with his stress related
anxiety of being on his own. So now Posh joins the ongoing story and is lucky enough to benefit from the Fryer family's
knowledge and determination to get her well, fit and happy as she was rescued from market and going to slaughter.
Now it would be easy to wonder why fundraising is still needed for Deno, he looks so well now doesn’t he?
However, due to the state he was in, he has been left with several major and ongoing health problems. Regular remedial dental & farrier work is needed and the sarcoids are a life threatening ongoing concern. And now there is Posh to help to health too, in a very similar state to how Deno was when he was rescued.

Deno and Posh are a good cause, entirely reliant on being supported for his living expenses and veterinary care, so would you like to join the Deno supporters and be a Deno Defender?
